We’ll focus on Evil Geniuses vs. Immortals first! Now, for all intents and purposes, this is far from a premier match-up. There’s just no other way to put it. Still, both teams can pack a punch and, even better, they love to skirmish and entertain, so we should, by all means, be in for quite a ride!
Evil Geniuses are currently tied for fourth with seven wins and five losses along with Dignitas and Team Liquid. They’re also just one win away from 100 Thieves and Team SoloMid, so getting a win here would mean they’d inch closer to getting that oh-so-important playoff bye. The odds aren’t exactly stacked in their favor, but it’s a fairly reasonable (and attainable) goal nonetheless.
By the same token, getting another win on the board could potentially separate them from the rest of the pack which is of the utmost importance right now. They’re all but guaranteed to reach the playoffs, but how high they’ll rank is anyone’s guess at this point. It’s a tight race regardless of the way you slice it, and things will surely go down to the wire. All of these teams need each and every single win they can get, and if they’re up against someone with a similar record, then doubly so.
Immortals, on the other hand, are in sole possession of seventh place with five wins and seven losses. It’s not exactly a mind-blowing record by any means, but it’s not half bad either. Heck, given what people expected from Immortals coming into 2021, it’s quite an impressive accomplishment.
With six more games left, Immortals find themselves in a fairly solid position. The playoffs are within reach and they know it. No one’s expecting them to leave much of a mark, but they’re a feisty bunch and they’re better than most people give them credit for. If they were to reach Top 6, that would have to come at the expense of one of the teams ranked above them. The odds are unfavorable (to say the least), but they do exist, so you can expect Immortals to fight for every inch of the Summoner’s Rift going forward in an attempt to upset the status quo.
They’re slated to face 100 Thieves, Team SoloMid, and Cloud9 next week and, if things pan out as expected, Immortals should be on the receiving end of things in all three games. They’re just not good enough to compete at the highest of levels and that’s okay — they were never supposed to be a part of that conversation in the first place. Their current record indicates one simple thing: they’re overperforming, but it won’t matter much in the grand scheme of things.
Evil Geniuses vs. Immortals Predictions
Gauging Evil Geniuses’ overall power level always feels nigh impossible because it tends to fluctuate. They’re volatile beyond belief, but that’s why they’re so darn entertaining. It all depends on the day. Sometimes they’ll spawn on the Rift and blow their opponents out of the water like it’s nothing — regardless if they’re up against a top-tier behemoth or a bottom-tier dweller. Other times they’ll make a slew of egregious mistakes early on and just implode beyond measure.
And, frankly, there’s very little rhyme or reason behind it all. From a betting standpoint, that’s an absolute nightmare, but they’ve been a bit more consistent lately and should, by all means, be able to finish the regular portion of the split with a couple of stellar performances. Well, that’s what we’re hoping for, at least, and even though there’s empirical evidence to back up such a prediction, you can never be too certain whenever EG is involved.
Regardless, they’ve been winning quite a lot lately, and even though some of their wins weren’t all that impressive or dominant, we’ve seen what they’re capable of and we were not left indifferent. When Daniele “Jiizuke” di Mauro decides to hardcarry it’s like Evil Geniuses become an unstoppable force of nature. The “Italian Stallion” might not be all that consistent, but whenever he’s in the “zone” there’s but a few people in North America who can go blow-for-blow.
The most important thing for Evil Geniuses is that their highs are not only more prominent than ever but also more frequent. They’re still insanely volatile and tend to go from 0 to 100 in what feels like a blink of an eye (for better or worse), but that’s arguably a part of their allure — they’re the most bravado-fuelled team in the LCS, and watching them compete has been one of the chief delights of the split thus far.

They might not outclass IMT as hard as some people expect, but they should still be able to get the win and solidify their spot as one of the best teams in North America.
