Musburger ended the 2018 SuperContest with an impressive record of 53-31-1 for 63.1%. For the final week, Musburger had the Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5), Buffalo Bills (-3.5), and Indianapolis Colts (-3) as winners. His two losing sides were the Baltimore Ravens (-6) and Minnesota Vikings (-4.5). After deducting $120 in service fees for the house, your $1,500 entry in the SuperContest sends $1,380 into the collective prize pool. The number of entries obviously dictates how large that prize pool will grow, but you can get a sense of how the SuperContest payouts work using last year’s results: 2018 Westgate SuperContest Results.

The Westgate SuperContest is the most prestigious football handicapping contest in Nevada and the United States. The National Football League (NFL) pick contest had 3,123 entrants for the 2018 season, a record that beat last year’s numbers.

Eric Kahane AKA “Personal Gourmet” is the winner of the Westgate SuperContest and the record $1.42 million first-place grand prize.

The 44-year old from Irvine, Calif. needed a perfect final week of picks for the last week of the NFL season to win the SuperContest.

He went 5-0 during week 17 of the NFL season and vaulted from third place all the way to first place. Kahne finished the SuperContest with a 70.2 percent record of 59-25-1. As it turns out the move from third to first was worth $1 million.

Westgate SuperContest payout

Kahane and more than 3,000 other entrants paid the $1,500 entry fee to participate in the 2018 SuperContest.

The Westgate, home to the SuperBook and SuperContest, takes an 8 percent administration fee and doles out the remainder of the entry fees for the contest to the top 100 finishers and late season mini-contest winners.

This season a total of 109 entries were paid anywhere from $1,666.95 for winning the mini-contest to $1.42 million for winning the SuperContest for the season. While Kahane won $1.42 million, the third place entry “only” won $409,425.30. Yes, week 17 was a million dollar week for the SuperContest winner.

SuperContest Gold

The Westgate introduced a contest for the high rollers in 2017. While the contest is played the same, the prize structure is different than the SuperContest. There is a $5,000 entry fee for SuperContest Gold and there is only one winner.

Sharper and professional gamblers prefer SuperContest Gold because there is no administration fee. This means that 100 percent of the money is paid out to the entry with the most wins.

This year there were 128 entries for SuperContest Gold this year. George King from Nevada won the contest and the $640,000 first grand prize. King finished SuperContest Gold season with a record of 55-27-3 (67.1%).

SuperContest 2019 sign-up

There should be a new sign-up period for the SuperContest in 2019. The Westgate traditionally opens sign up for the SuperContest in July. However, it appears as though that will change this year.

Jay Kornegay, vice president of Race & Sports Operations at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, sent out a tweet stating that the casino expects to have dedicated windows open for SuperContest weekend during the first weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament.
